Corporate and Social Responsibility
The prosperity of our business and of the communities within which we operate requires a commitment to the sustainable management of our activities.
Our People
At Warrens Office, we realise that the quality and well-being of our staff are essential to achieve our customers’ total satisfaction and therefore the success of our business. We seek to recruit staff in all parts of the business who share our passion for great customer service.
We are committed to equal opportunities for all our employees and they are recognised and rewarded on the basis of their performance, effort, contribution and achievements. We aim to achieve and maintain the highest standards of health and safety and provide a safe and healthy working environment. We have an effective health and safety policy that is regularly reviewed and updated.
We ensure that all staff are given both general and business-specific training covering products, sales, health and safety, GDPR and environmental issues. We encourage career development generally and the staff are communicated to regularly and are engaged in the business. About a third of the workforce take advantage of our flexible working policy and staff also receive other benefits, such as private health care and an advantageous pension scheme. The happiness of staff is proved by the fact that many of them have worked for us for many years.
Our Community
Being part of the wider community matters to us. We aim to enhance our contribution to the community by being sensitive to the needs of local people and groups and also by promoting ethical and socially responsible trading. We have sponsored one of Marwell Wildlife’s Zany Zebras and we have a charitable supply arrangement with Naomi House. We regularly support local schools and other community bodies, both financially and by donating products. Most recently, we have part-funded a debrillator for use by all businesses on the industrial estate where we are based. The Managing Director was a board director of Winchester BID, a community backed not-for-profit initiative to energise the city centre. He remains an active member of the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce for 25 years.
In June 2018, Paul Morgan, our MD, was awarded the prestigious Millenium Egg Award by Winchester City Council. The Egg has been described as Winchester’s equivalent to the “Lifetime Achievement” Oscar for involvement in and support of the local economy.
Our Environment
We are proud of our environmental credentials and we are committed to reducing our environmental impact by implement a robust system of environmental management. We obtained ISO 14001 accreditation a decade ago and in 2015 we achieved Carbon Smart Gold certification, which was described as “an impressive achievement within 3 years” in the accreditation report. Frequent audits by the ISO accreditation body ensure that we constantly stretch ourselves to operate more sensitively and responsibly.
We run our electric vehicles from solar panels on the roof of our building. By joining our local environmental management group, Winchester Action for Climate Change, we made a public commitment to managing and reducing the significant environmental impact of local business. As well as adhering to stringent environmental standards in our own processes and waste management, we also promote and supply environmentally friendly products to customers who share our concerns about environmental impact.
